Genesis 34-36, 38

May 6, 2026    Pastor Jason Duff

In this third session on the life of Jacob, Pastor Jason walks through Genesis 34–36 and 38 to show how Jacob's decision to settle in Shechem — just 12 miles short of Bethel, the place God called him to — sent ripple effects of tragedy through his entire family, from Dinah's defilement and the murderous revenge of his sons, to the death of Rachel, to the sordid chapter involving Judah and Tamar. The heart of the message is a powerful call to abide: when Jacob finally obeys and returns to Bethel, revival breaks out in his household, worship is restored, God speaks again, and Jacob's faith grows deeper — only for the pattern to repeat when he leaves again, showing how often just a small shift in priorities is the difference between flourishing and failure. The session closes with a reminder that Jesus Himself came from this broken, dysfunctional, morally complicated family line — not to excuse our sin, but to prove that God's grace is bigger than our worst chapters and that His word to Jacob is still His word to us: arise, go back to Bethel, and this time, stay there.
