Our Story
THE BEGINNING (1980-1987)
Calvary Vista began as Tri-City Calvary Chapel in 1980, founded by Pastor Chuck Eason. In 1982, Pastor Chuck felt called to return to the mission field. At that time, Pastor Brian Brodersen from Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa stepped in to serve as Lead Pastor of a small congregation of about 50 people.
In 1984, the church name was changed to Calvary Chapel Vista. Under Pastor Brian’s leadership, the church began to grow. In 1987, the congregation moved from the small chapel on Hacienda Drive to its current location at 885 E. Vista Way.
A HEART FOR CHURCH PLANTING (1989-1996)
In 1989, Pastor Brian and a small team traveled to Eastern Europe to “see what the Lord might want to do.” That trip led to the first two church plants from Calvary Vista—one in Vajta, Hungary, and another in Subotica, Yugoslavia.
During this time, the church continued to grow and developed a strong heart for missions and church planting, helping establish churches throughout the United States and around the world.
A NEW SEASON OF LEADERSHIP (1996-PRESENT)
In 1996, Pastor Brian and his family felt called to plant a new Calvary Chapel in London, England.
The Leadership Team then invited Pastor Rob Salvato to return to Vista and serve as Lead Pastor. Pastor Rob had previously served as the Youth Pastor at Calvary Vista from 1985–1991 under Pastor Brian before being sent out by the church to plant a Calvary Chapel in Oregon. Pastor Rob accepted the role of Lead Pastor in August 1996.
Calvary Vista continues to be a spiritual influence in the North County San Diego area and to plant churches around the United States and the world. To date, 31 churches have been planted out of Calvary Vista in 10 different states and eight different countries of the world. Calvary Vista is known for its casual “laid back” atmosphere, heartfelt worship, brotherly love, and clear exposition of the Word. As a church family, we look forward to what God has purposed for our future and always give thanks for the things He has done in the past. To God be the glory.

Our Belief
Jesus
Jesus is the foundation and cornerstone of the church. He came to restore man’s broken relationship with God. His finished work on the cross made that possible. Because of His love demonstrated on the cross by dying for our sins, we now have reason to fellowship with one another and proclaim salvation through His life, death, and resurrection (1 Corinthians 3:11, Ephesians 2:20, Romans 5:6-10).
The Bible
The Bible is the inspired, infallible, authoritative, inerrant word of God and is relevant and applicable to man today. Therefore, we place great emphasis upon teaching it in public, studying it in private, and using it as a guide for our daily lives (Acts 20:32, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 1 Thessalonians 2:13).
Worship
We believe God is worthy of all praise, reverence, and love. We take special time to worship Him in the church with song. It is our goal to worship Him with our whole lives as well; at home, at work, and at play (John 4:23, Colossians 3:16, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
Love
Love is the greatest virtue and demonstration of the reality of Jesus Christ. We endeavor to show a Christ-like love toward all men. Love should be exhibited in our lives by our words as well as our actions (John 13:34-35, 1 Corinthians 13:13, Philippians 2:3).
Christian Growth
Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed into His image and likeness by the power of the Holy Spirit. We encourage this by abiding in Jesus Christ through His Word, prayer, fellowship, and by yielding our lives to the Holy Spirit (John 15:5, Romans 8:29, Ephesians 4:15).
Christian Service
Christian service is part of the Christian life and is the responsibility of all believers. Our goal is to develop the ministry of every member to the benefit of all (Ephesians 4:11-13, 1 Corinthians 12:4-7).
