Ruth Chapter 4

Feb 19, 2026    Christy Duff

In this closing session on Ruth chapter 4, Christy Duff brings the book of Ruth to its beautiful conclusion by holding up Boaz as a portrait of countercultural godliness — a man who elevated the eyes of everyone around him toward God, followed the commands of God at personal cost, and waited with patience on God's timing — then setting him in sharp contrast with the unnamed close relative whose refusal to say yes to God's call, in order to protect his temporary field, cost him his place in the story entirely. The message lands a pointed challenge around that unnamed man's response — "I might jeopardize my own estate" — asking how often that same knee-jerk reaction causes us to trade eternal reward for temporary comfort, and reminding us that once you've heard the call of God and said no, you can never truly be content with what you left behind. The session closes with the genealogy of Ruth — Obed, Jesse, David, and ultimately Jesus — as evidence that God is faithful and gracious to every generation, that He can redeem the most marred and messy chapters of any story, and that the same Redeemer who worked through Ruth and Naomi's bitter, broken beginning is still soaking and scrubbing and working all things together for those who will wait on Him, worship Him, and say yes.
