Chris Wheatley first came to Calvary Chapel of Vista in 1997. In 2000 he was sent out on the mission field to Moscow, Russia where he assisted with church planning, outreach ministry, and eventually pastored a church in Moscow. In 2003 he and Sasha were married in Moscow. They have three daughters, Anya, Paulina, and Emily. Chris and his family returned in 2008 and Chris has served primarily in the sound and media ministry, as well as teaching in the Equip School of Ministry. Their desire is to see the body grow as worshipers of God in both spirit and in truth (John 4:23) ---
Michael has been married for 17 years to his lovely bride, Erin, who went home to the Lord in 2019 after battling cancer. Erin led the American Heritage Girls Ministry at Calvary Vista. Together, they had two wonderful children, Caleb and Grace. The Gilbert family has attended Calvary Vista since 2003, after moving from San Francisco. Calvary Vista was the first church they attended and there was no need to look further as they had found their home church. Michael was born again in 1992 and from there he went on a mission trip to Russia, led a bible study for a college group, served on the Christian drama team at his previous church, and served in Children's Ministry at Calvary Vista. Michael currently serves in a Men's Ministry Home Fellowship, leads a Ministry Facility Team and is on the Deacons Team. Michael seeks to glorify the Lord by His abundant grace through the truth found in John 17:3: "And this is eternal life, that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent."
Jesse and Angela were married in 2005 and have three children, Cyanna, Gabriel and Andrew. Jesse co-leads a Home Fellowship, serves at Solutions for Change, is on the Usher Team, Prayer Team, and Facility Ministry Team. Angela serves at Solutions for Change, Home Fellowship, Children's Ministry, and is a part of the Peace Restored Ministry. Jesse was saved in 2003, when Angela invited him to a church service. Jesse and Angela struggled in their walks with the Lord and in their marriage until 2008. This is when they came to the end of their rope which at that time, being married only three years, had contemplated divorce twice. They both were ready to let the Lord into their hearts and allow Him to lead. By God's grace, He changed their hearts, restored their marriage and renewed their lives. Jesse is passionate about coming along side men to encourage them in their faith. Angela has since resigned from the work force to pour into her primary ministry, her family. Their desire is to see others experience God’s miraculous ability to transform hearts. They believe in the power of serving others and sharing the love of Jesus. They are blessed to be able to serve the Lord together.
Jim and Shanti have been married since October, 1990 (Pastor Rob's first wedding ceremony). They met while serving in the High School ministry as counselors. They have four children: Skyler, Sierra, Justin, and Julia. They have been attending Calvary Chapel Vista since 1989.
Oscar and Kookie were married in 1981. They have three sons, Chris age 29, Greg age 27 and Jordan age 23. The Abad’s have been attending Calvary Chapel of Vista since 1987. Oscar has served in the Church Leadership Team, Men’s Ministry, Jail Ministry, Spanish Ministry, church planting and has taught in the School of Ministry. Kookie has served in the Women’s Ministry and Children’s Ministry Oscar currently serves in the Church Leadership Team, writes the Home Fellowship Bible Studies and leads a Home Fellowship Group with his wife, Kookie. Our heart for the church is that we would remain steadfast, immovable, rooted and grounded in Christ and that we would live worthy of being called by His name.
Rob and Denise were married in 1986 and have three adult children; Aaron, Amy and Amanda. Rob and Denise have been a part of Calvary Vista since 1985. Rob served as the youth pastor from 1985-1991. In the fall of 1991 the Salvato family moved to Oregon to plant a new Calvary Chapel Church in the Salem area. In 1996, the Salvato family returned to Vista when Rob was asked to be the lead pastor of the church. Denise oversees the Women’s Ministry, serves on the Worship Team, and as a special assistant to Pastor Rob. Rob and Denise also oversee the Thrive Marriage Ministry together and have a passion to see married couples enjoying Jesus and enjoying their life together. Their prayer for Calvary Vista is that we would be a group growing in our love and passion for Jesus Christ, our love and care for each other, and our love for the lost in North County San Diego and the world.
The Henschel family has been a part of Calvary Vista since 1985. Steve and Jeannine were married in September of 1977 and have 2 adult children, Cheree and Joe. Steve serves as the chief Administrative Pastor and oversees the Men’s Ministry, the Usher Team, and the Home Fellowship Groups. Jeannine serves in the front office and in the Women’s Ministry. Steve has been a part of the Leadership Team since 1999. He also has a secret passion for cooking and loves to make the meals for our Thrive Marriage Ministry, as well as other church gatherings.
The Hill family has been a part of Calvary Vista since 1982. Eddie and Dawn have 5 children and are actively involved in the church. Eddie is an Assistant Pastor, serving in administration, counseling, and as a worship leader. Eddie also serves on the Leadership Team and is a Board member of Calvary Christian School. Together, Eddie and Dawn serve on the leadership team for the Thrive Marriage Fellowship, having a deep desire to help strengthen marriages in the church. Dawn is actively involved in the Women’s Ministry leadership and mentoring young moms. The Hills have a passion to see people grow in their relationship with Jesus and become students of God's word.
Rob was married 21 years when his wife passed away in 1991. He has two children, Jessica and Jonathan. Jessica and her husband and two children live in Bend, Oregon. Jonathan and his wife live in Oceanside. Rob is an ordained pastor and has served in various ministries throughout the years: Church Leadership Team, Sound Room Ministry, Men’s Ministry, School of Discipleship, Spanish ministry, Calvary Web Internet Ministry, School Board for Calvary Christian School, and has been involved in various mission trips. Rob currently serves as our Missions Pastor, is on the Church Leadership Team and serves in the Spanish Ministry. Rob’s heart for the church is that it we would become more and more intimate in our fellowship with Jesus, and as a result would increase in our ministry to one another, and our outreach to those not only in our sphere of influence but also to those in the uttermost parts of the world in these last days. Rob oversees a ministry called Simply the Story.
Mike and Sandy were married in 1987 and have two sons, Nick and Max. Mike has served on the Church Leadership Team, Usher Team, Deacon Team, Prayer Team, and in Men’s Ministry. Mike has also served on the board for Calvary Christian School. Sandy has served in Women’s Ministry and in Solutions for Change. Mike currently serves on the Church Leadership Team and Prayer Team, as well as leads a men’s Home Fellowship study. Sandy currently serves as a co-leader of a women’s bible study and in Solutions for Change. Mike and Sandy’s heart for the church is that we would let our hearts so shine before men that they would see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven, and that we would be effective in sharing the gospel so that all would come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Mark & Dawn both accepted Christ in 1971 at Calvary Costa Mesa during the ‘Jesus People’ movement and were married by Chuck Smith in 1974. They have three adult children: Megan, Cara & Matt and six grandchildren. After Costa Mesa, they attended CC Ontario (now CC Chino Valley) for several years and were active in the Children’s Ministry. They have been at Calvary Vista since 1987 Vista and were Sunday school teachers for 17 years. Dawn is a co-leader in the Women’s Bible Study, on the Thrive leadership team and the online prayer chain. Mark is a deacon, a member of the prayer team, on the Thrive leadership team, and a Home Fellowship group leader since they were formed several years ago.
