The Father’s Pleasure

The Father’s Pleasure

“Seek the Kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.” – Luke 12:31-32

I still remember the very first time I read this. I was floored by the phrase “It gives the Father great pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Being an athlete, I had the mindset that anything good that came into my life would come through hard work and earning it. I carried that mentality into my Christian walk, always thinking that  I needed to earn God’s favor.

But in this verse, Jesus is saying THE FATHER takes great pleasure in blessing his kids. As a dad, I understand this. For example, on Christmas day, I receive so much more pleasure in seeing my kids open a gift that they really wanted, than opening up any gift that’s for me.  AS A FATHER, I TAKE GREAT PLEASURE IN BLESSING MY KIDS.

Jesus says the Heavenly Father looks at it the same way. He takes pleasure in giving us the Kingdom. Understand, this phrase “the Kingdom” has way more to do with spiritual resources and blessings that are designed to help us live and enjoy the Christian life, than material possessions that only help ease our earthly existence. Jesus said to the Church in Smyrna, “You are poor in the eyes of the people around you, but you are rich in my eyes.” They were rich in faith and in their spiritual rewards.

So rejoice today that your Heavenly Father takes great pleasure in blessing you by meeting your needs, by opening doors of opportunity for you to be used by Him, by showering you with grace, especially when you deserve something else. Seek the Kingdom above… and all these things will be added to you.  Glory be to God!
